The Oklahoma football locker room is housed within the Barry Switzer Center under the south end zone of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. It might be the least public of the OU football team spaces, but the locker room plays a special role in recruiting and motivating players.
OU's locker room and team support areas were significantly renovated and expanded prior to the 2009 season. The 9,000 square-foot locker room facility includes grooming areas, cold plunge hydrotherapy pools and a players' lounge.
The walls of the Switzer Center depict Oklahoma's championships, award winners, All-Americans and NFL stars from the tenure of head coach Bob Stoops. The entrance to the locker room is flanked by OU's seven national championship trophies.
When exiting the locker room en route to Owen Field at game time, players view a "Sooner Magic" sign and a quote from legendary OU coach Bud Wilkinson: "Football, in its purest form, remains a physical fight. As in any fight, if you don't want to fight, it's impossible to win."
Above the final door exiting to the field, players touch the traditional "Play Like a Champion Today!" sign that has inspired Sooners for decades.
Inside the locker room, new solid-wood lockers were widened and enhanced with individual charging bases for mobile devices, locking compartments and climate-controlled equipment bins. The floor spells out "Oklahoma" and the ceiling houses the famous interlocking OU logo.
The locker room offers direct access to the adjacent Bud Wilkinson practice fields, the 10,000 square-foot athletic training space, the 6,500 square-foot equipment room and the Red Room.
